Tim Smith has spent 30 years in the Bedding Industry.  He began his career in 1981 under the tutelage of industry veteran, Dallas Yeargain, at Spring Air Mattress Co in Denver Colorado.  After graduating from the University of Colorado in 1985 with a major in Small Business Administration Tim performed all factory jobs at Spring Air Denver working his way through Shipping Manager, Purchasing Agent, Plant Manager before being named Vice President of Manufacturing in 1990.  Tim was responsible for virtually all vendor interaction and worked with the company until its sale in the fall of 1995.

Tim left Denver in the fall of 1995 to take over the Quality Assurance Manager’s role at Serta, Inc. in Chicago.  There Tim designed and successfully implemented Serta’s Quality Assurance Program into all 30 U.S. and Canadian Factories.  In addition, Tim was responsible for the drafting and maintenance of Serta’s General Manufacturing Specifications (GMS) Manual.  He spent extensive time in each of Serta’s 30 factories, annually auditing their production methods and product quality while helping each plant continually improve their factory operations.  Tim was promoted to Director of Quality Assurance in 1997.  He implemented and managed Serta’s Partners in Progress programs with Serta’s key vendors helping Serta factories significantly improve the quality and timeliness of their raw material supply.  The Serta Quality program demonstrated quick and lasting success and expanded to include two additional audit personnel.

Serta’s licensee structure allowed for each factory to develop its own best methods.  The Quality Assurance department was responsible for evaluating these methods and determining which should be “Best Practices”.  Tim was responsible for creation of a “Best Practices” manual where those methods were communicated via written manual and video to all Serta licensee factories. Tim was promoted to Vice President of Corporate Operations in 1999 and took over the active manufacturing and marketing support of Serta’s 20+ International Licensees while maintaining the management responsibility for Serta’s Quality and Vendor Partner programs.

Tim’s entire bedding career to date has included hands-on experience in some of the fastest growing, largest and most successful bedding plants in the U.S and abroad.
